UK Internet Governance Forum 2018 session recordings now available

Following on from an open call for agenda items, the 2018 UK-IGF was held on Thursday 22^nd November.

This year’s UK-Internet Governance Forum meeting focused on Solutions for The Digital Age.

Over 110 participants attended this annual meeting, the 11th since the first UK Internet Governance Forum in 2008, then the world’s first National IGF. Participants found that this year’s edition was the best UK IGF so far.

The UK IGF has a steering committee and secretariat. The committee members can be found here and the secretariat function is provided by Nominet, the UK’s national domain name registry.… Read more ...

The Internet: to regulate or not to regulate? Internet Society UK Chapter responds to House of Lords Inquiry

The House of Lords Select Committee on Communications has recently launched an inquiry to investigate the regulation of the Internet. This inquiry seeks to take an holistic approach to the question of Internet regulation.

Questions asked are:

1. Is there a need to introduce specific regulation for the internet? Is it desirable or possible?

2. What should the legal liability of online platforms be for the content that they host?

3. How effective, fair and transparent are online platforms in moderating content that they host?… Read more ...

In June 2016 ISOC published a working paper “A policy framework for an open and trusted Internet” outlining the four interrelated dimension to be considered when developing policies for the internet. http://www.internetsociety.org/doc/policy-framework-open-and-trusted-internet

August 2012 results for IPv6 Matrix project

The Internet Society chapter in the UK (ISOC England) has been awarded a community grants award in November 2009 to design and implement an “IPv6 crawler”, a software that would crawl through the DNS at regular intervals in order to detect and test the following:

IPv6 DNS servers
IPv6 compliant web servers
IPv6 compliant SMTP servers
IPv6 compliant NTP servers

The software has been running on ISOC England owned hardware in Telehouse North, London Docklands, hosted on 2020Media’s sponsored rack, since Summer 2010 and more than 160Gb of data has been collected so far – and the tracking is ongoing.… Read more ...
